Women's Volleyball Swept at Mass. Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - September 21, 2021 - The Dean College women's volleyball team lost a tough battle at Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening, 3-0, by scores of 25-21, 27-25 and 27-25.   

The Bulldogs are slated to host their first match of the season on Friday at 7 p.m. The contest against Elms will also be the team's first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match.  

Emily Larouche led the Bulldogs with six kills. Sari Albury finished with four kills and three aces. Annabella Driscoll and Lena Muraski registered eight assists each. Janai Price served up a match-high four aces. Amanda Payne tallied a match-high 28 digs, while Jordan Cournoyer-Herivaux chipped in with 11 digs.

Tegan Murray led the match with a career-high 13 kills for the Bucs. Alexa Smith and Marlo Sim each had six kills. Bianca Andronic posted a match-high 15 assists. Ameena Freeman led the Bucs with three service aces and defensively she led the team with 21 digs. Sim added a career-high 19 digs, Diana Andronic had a career-high 17 digs and Bianca Andronic had 14 digs in the win.

The first set was back and forth throughout. With the score tied at 17-17, the Bucs went on an 8-4 run capped by a Murray kill to secure the 25-21 victory. 

The home team raced out to an 8-3 advantage in the second set thanks to a few aces in that stretch. The Bulldogs battled back to eventually tie the score at 10-10 after a Larouche kill. Dean then went in front 17-13, but the Bucs made a run and tied the score at 21-21. The teams traded the next eight points to make the score 25-25. A Sim kill and a Dean attack error gave the Bucs the next two points and the 27-25 second set win. 

The third set mirrored the second as the action went back and forth. This time the Bucs took an 8-4 lead before Dean began to chip away. The Bulldogs tied the set at 14-14. Again, the set would be tied several times more including at 25-25. The Bucs benefited from a pair of attack errors by Dean to come away with the 27-25 third set and match victory.
