Franklin, Mass.- The Dean College Women's Volleyball team was defeated in straight sets by New England College on Saturday at Pieri Gym in Franklin, Mass. With the loss, the Bulldogs drop to 0-12 (0-4 GNAC) while NEC improves to 7-5 (2-1 GNAC).
How it Happened:
- Dean fell behind early in the first set, ceding the first three points to the visitors, before responding to close to the gap. The Bulldogs tied the game at 3, and then again at 7, before allowing seven straight points to give the Pilgrims the early advantage. A kill by junior Maddy Seymour (Simsbury, Conn.) ended the NEC run and gave Dean a head start on their own offensive streak. The Bulldogs ripped off five straight points to close the gap to 14-12, but would get no closer, as the Pilgrims regained control and held on for the 25-19 opening set win.
- Seymour opened the scoring for Dean in the second set with another kill, followed by back-to-back kills from Ali Murphy (Middleboro, Mass.) and Angelina Steiger (Oxford, Mass.) NEC used a six point sprint to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 9-4 lead and never looked back, taking the set 25-16.
- Dean fell behind 11-2 in the third set and never recovered, falling 25-8 in the decisive final game.
Notables:
Seymour led the Bulldogs with seven kills while also adding 14 digs.
Chloe Demaio (Needham, Mass.) finished with three kills, while Steiger added two.
Julia Dommel (Beacon Falls, Conn.) led the way on defense with 16 digs, while senior
Olivia Mackinnon (Plymouth, Mass.) added eight.
