THE LEAD:
Alex Safford
and Aubrey Vierstra combined for ten goals and two assists and that duo carried Southern Vermont to a 20-2 win over Dean College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The host Bulldogs got on the board first when Lauryn Wilks (Hartford, Conn.) scored a little more than three minutes into the contest.

Dean's lead was short lived, however, as the Mountaineers recorded the next 11 goals of the half as both Safford (five) and Vierstra (four) played huge roles in building that halftime advantage.

Wilks opened the second half the way she did the first, this time finding the back of the net on a free position shot, but once again Southern Vermont had an answer. The Mountaineers responded with nine straight scores to end the game as seven different student-athletes accounted for those nine goals led by two each from Meagan McSweeney and Mia Prouty.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Southern Vermont held a 46-11 edge in shots and their defense forced 24 Dean turnovers – 20 of which came in the first half.

Jamaya Cleveland (Greensboro, Ga.) turned aside 15 shots in goal for Dean, while Briana Saunders (Irvington, N.J.) scooped up a team-best four groundballs and had a pair of caused turnovers.

UP NEXT:
Dean will be back in action on Monday when they host Lyndon State at 4:00 p.m.
