THE LEAD:
Alyssa Kelly led a contingent of five different multi-goal scorers with five goals and four assists as host Mount Ida raced past Dean College 19-0 in non-league women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The win for the Mustangs marks their second straight victory over the Bulldogs in the team's all-time matchups and is the program's eighth shutout in school history.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Emily McConnell got Mount Ida rolling early with a pair of goals in the game's first minute of action and by the time ten minutes had come off the board, the Mustangs were in front 8-0 as six different players found the back of the net.
McConnell's third goal of the half gave Mount Ida a 10-0 edge and then Kelly scored on a free position shot and assisted on a Mia Tsoukalas score with less than a minute to go before halftime.
The Mustang offense scored seven goals in the second half, including a free position strike from Meghan Sargent, two more from Kelly and a pair from Brooke Scahill.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Lauryn Wilks (Hartford, Conn.) had the Bulldogs' lone shot of the afternoon, while Jamaya Cleveland (Greensboro, Ga.) scooped up a team-best seven ground balls and Briana Saunders (Irvington, N.J.) provided a caused turnover.
UP NEXT:
Dean will return to action on Monday when they host Rhode Island College in their home opener slated for a 4:00 PM start.
