Box Score 2 Brookline, MA.- The Dean College Bulldogs used a balanced attack to defeat Pine Manor 90-67 on Friday, notching their seventh straight win.
With his 77th win, Coach Grahm Smith becomes the program's all time leader in wins. Under Smith's direction, the Bulldogs have gone 77-26 over the last four seasons.
Dean had 5 players score in double figures. Chelsea Johnson led the way with 19 points on 6-13 shooting. Sophia Corbitt and Fataya Larry both had 13 points, with Larry also adding 10 rebounds. Denisha Gardener had 11 points and 6 rebounds and Dana Jackson pitched in 10 points off the bench.
The Bulldogs started fast. Dean raced out to a 6-0 start and a 3 pointer from Johnson midway through the quarter stretched their lead to 14-2. Pine Manor bounced back to close the gap to 6 before ending the period down 7.
The second period was tightly contested. Three consecutive trips for the Bulldogs ended with points from Farrah Beatty, with a layup at 3:21 pushing the Dean lead back to 11. The Bulldogs went into the break leading 37-28.
A layup from Shaneka Monroe cut the Pine Manor deficit to 6 two minutes into the third period, but Dean responded with a 22-8 run to push their lead to 20 with 4 minutes remaining in the quarter.
The Bulldogs controlled the fourth quarter 20-16 to coast to a 23 point win.
Dean shot 47% from the field while Pine Manor shot 33%. The Bulldogs dominated points in the paint (42-26) and second chance points (19-9). Dean never trailed.
The Bulldogs next travel to Southern Vermont College on Monday for their final game of the regular season.
