Women's Basketball Falls in Tight Conference Contest at Elms College, 88-78

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Dean College women's basketball team fell short in the final quarter of action at Elms College on Saturday, ultimately losing by a final score of 88-78. With the loss, the Bulldogs drop 7-16 (2-8 GNAC), while the Blazers improve to 7-16 (3-7 GNAC).

How it Happened:
-It took three minutes for the first basket to find its way into the box score. Jordan Ellis (Bridgeport, Conn.) secured a three-point play, assisted by first-year Kenzie Sherburne (Durham, N.Y.). However, Elms fired back with scores from Piper Graham and Malinna Figueroa.
-The two Elms scores prompted an 8-2 run, eventually giving the Blazers an 8-5 advantage. They narrowly outscored the Bulldogs 13-11 to finish the first quarter. However, Dean finished the quarter with four straight points from senior Abigail Lacy (Arroyo Grande, Calif.).
-Dean continued to keep the score close through the second quarter with 20 more points. Kendrah Doane (New Salem, Mass.) found her stride in this frame, posting nine points. All her points were from three-point attempts.
-Junior Azaria Landry (Lacey, Wash.) also had a strong quarter for the Bulldogs. She scored eight points while shooting 4-5 from the field.
-The Bulldogs went into the locker room trailing the Blazers by just four points. A second-half lead was within striking distance.
-Dean came out of the locker room with a mission. They stunned elms by shooting 55 percent from the field and outscoring them 34-28. Ellis paved the way for the Bulldogs with 13 points and two rebounds. The Bulldogs now had the 65-63 lead heading into the final quarter.
-However, Elms managed to find their footing and regain the lead in the final quarter. The lead officially shifted with seven minutes to play in the game. Mary Turco tipped-in a rebound at the glass, giving Elms the 69-68 advantage.
-Dean fought hard to keep the score close. Landry had a phenomenal fourth quarter, knocking down eight points on three consecutive scores. Her efforts kept the margin within one.
-Alas, Elms continued to produce offensively and sealed the win. Their 11-2 run in the final three minutes gave them the victory with a final score of 88-78.
-Elms also forced Dean into foul trouble in the final moments. Sherburne fouled out of the game, while Landry, Doane and Lacy each collected four fouls.
