WINTHROP, Mass. - The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has announced that Dean College softball freshman
Nina Ostafin (West, Hartford, Conn.) has earned Rookie of the Week honors. This is the first Rookie of the Week honors of her collegiate career.
Ostafin is coming off one of the best single-week performances the softball program has ever seen. In six games, Ostafin recorded a .636 batting average, 15 RBIs, four extra-base hits, and five runs scored. Her efforts helped softball secure a 3-1 record to open GNAC play.
Her week's performance was highlighted by a walk-off grand slam on Sunday afternoon, giving the Bulldogs a 13-9 victory over the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.). In that game, she also finished 3-5 with two runs and six RBIs.
On the year, Ostafin currently sports a .353 batting average with 17 RBIs and seven runs scored. She ranks fourth in the GNAC in RBIs and 23
rd in total hits (18).
Prior to Dean, Ostafin played softball at Conard High School in West Hartford. She was a two-time all-conference selection and four-time all-academic honoree.
