Softball Posts 15 Combined Runs En Route to Doubleheader Split with Mass Maritime Academy

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – The Dean College softball team vigilantly responded on Wednesday afternoon, scoring 10 runs to take game two of their doubleheader with Mass Maritime Academy by a final score of 10-6. Despite falling in game one, they posted 15 combined runs and 19 combined hits in both games. With the split, the Bulldogs move to 3-9 overall, while the Buccaneers shift to 7-6.

GAME ONE: Mass Maritime Academy 13, Dean College 5
-Dean jumped out to an early 2–0 lead in the first inning. Leah Chamberlain (Burlington, Vt.) and Nina Ostafin (West Hartford, Conn.) each drove in runs following defensive miscues.
-Mass Maritime answered immediately in the bottom half, capitalizing on walks and wild pitches to score four runs and take control of the game.
-The Buccaneers broke it open in the second inning, plating seven runs on seven hits to extend the lead to 11–2.
-Dean showed resilience in the fourth inning. Emily Yazzetti (Mahopac, N.Y.) and Liana Silva (New Britain, Conn.) both scored on errors to cut into the deficit.
-The Bulldogs added another run in the fifth, with L. Silva delivering an RBI single to bring home Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.).
-Mass Maritime added insurance runs late to maintain separation and secure the 13–5 victory. Natalie Hayes (Brewster, N.Y.) would be given the loss in the circle, while MMA's Jennamarie Klemp picked up her fifth win of the season.

GAME TWO: Dean College 10, Mass Maritime Academy 6
-Dean set the tone early in the opening inning. Ramos reached base and helped ignite the offense, eventually coming around to score to give the Bulldogs an early advantage.
-After Mass Maritime answered, the Bulldogs stayed composed and continued to put pressure on the defense. Chamberlain and Ostafin continued their offensive ways from the first game, reaching base and forcing the Buccaneers to work out of traffic.
-Dean regained control in the third inning, stringing together quality at-bats. Ashlee Mastrodomenico (Middleboro, Mass.) delivered a key RBI, while Ostafin followed with another run-scoring hit to push the Bulldogs back in front.
-The offense found its rhythm in the fifth inning, breaking the game open with a four-run frame. Chamberlain sparked the rally with a base hit, and Ramos, Mastrodomenico, and Ostafin all contributed during the surge to extend the lead.
-Dean continued to add insurance in the sixth and seventh innings, with Ramos and Chamberlain once again getting on base and setting up additional scoring chances.
-In the circle, Bryce DeGasparre (Attleboro, Mass.) worked through early pressure and settled in as the game progressed, limiting further damage and keeping the Bulldogs in control. She finished game two with a complete effort, striking out three batters.
-Mass. Maritime made a late push, but Dean's defense held steady behind DeGasparre, recording key outs to prevent the momentum from shifting.
-The Bulldogs' balanced offensive attack and ability to respond in key moments ultimately secured their 10–6 victory to close out the doubleheader.
