NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Dean College softball team took both games in their road doubleheader with Mitchell College on Saturday afternoon, winning by final scores of 6-3 and 9-6. With the pair of wins, the Bulldogs improve to 5-9 (2-0 GNAC), while the Mariners dropped to 7-11 (1-3 GNAC).
GAME ONE: Dean College 6, Mitchell College 3
-Both sides exchanged blows in the first two innings, but neither was able to score. Dean starter Bryce Degasparre (Attleboro, Mass). Allowed just one hit in that span while facing eight batters.
-The Bulldogs struck first in the top of the third inning.
Leah Chamberlain (Burlington, Vt.) reached on an error, allowing two runs to come in. Dean led 2-0 after three complete frames.
-Mitchell got one back in the top of the fourth, but it didn't take long for the Bulldogs to respond. Chamberlain secured another run on an RBI double. She was then brought home off an RBI double from first-year
Nina Ostafin (West Hartford, Conn.). Dean now had four runs over the Mariners after five innings.
-Arianna Drouin recorded an RBI single for Mitchell in the bottom of the sixth, making it 4-2. However, Degasparre stayed resilient in the circle, shutting down the Mariner attack while stranding a runner.
-The Bulldogs scored two more runs in the top of the seventh to seal the win.
Katrina Lee (Brookline, N.H.) found the box score off an RBI single.
Liana Silva (New Britain, Conn.) also had an RBI single, scoring Chamberlain.
-Despite one more run by the Mariners in the bottom of the seventh, the Bulldogs stood tall and shut them down. Dean took game one by a final score of 6-3.

GAME TWO: Dean College 9, Mitchell College 6
-Dean struck first to open the second game of the pair. Ostafin came in clutch again with an RBI single, scoring
Xandra Silva (New Britain, Conn.) and
Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.).
-Shortly after, the Mariners split the difference with their first run of the game. Kaylee Drago recorded a sacrifice flyout, scoring Cassandra Roman. This made it 2-1 after the first inning's affairs.
-Dean recorded one of their best innings of the season in the second. They scored five crucial runs, including RBIs from Ramos, Ostafin, and
Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, Mass.). Ostafin's double ultimately gave Dean the 7-1 lead after the top half.
-Mitchell scored again in the bottom half to make the score 7-2.
-The Mariners made it a close game in the third inning, scoring four runs off three hits. The pressure was back on the Bulldogs' offense in the bottom half.
-Degasparre entered the game in relief of sophomore
Natalie Hayes (Brewster, N.Y.). She shut down the Mariner offense through the final four innings, allowing zero runs on just three hits.
-Dean responded again in the fifth inning with their final pair of runs.
Emily Yazzetti (Mahopac, N.Y.) dropped a two-RBI single, scoring both Ostafin and L. Silva.
-After a perfect sixth and seventh, the Bulldogs closed out the game victorious by a final score of 9-6.
