KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Dean College softball team was defeated in their Thursday double-header games in Kissimmee, Florida. They were defeated by Blackburn College by a score of 3-1 and Russell Sage College by a score of 7-2. With the pair of losses, the Bulldogs drop to 1-7 on the year.
GAME ONE: Blackburn College 3, Dean College 1
-Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings as the pitchers settled in early and the defenses kept runners off the board.
-Blackburn broke the deadlock in the top of the third inning when Kailynn Kruep delivered an RBI single that brought home Brianna Melchor, giving the Beavers a 1–0 lead.
-The Beavers extended the lead in the fourth inning with a series of timely hits. An RBI single from Shelby Koenig plated one run, and a sacrifice fly by Sierra Hiser added another to make it 3–0.
-Dean had an opportunity to answer in the bottom of the fourth, putting runners on base after a single by
Ari Amaral (Attleboro, Mass.) and an error, but the Bulldogs were unable to push a run across.
-The Bulldogs finally broke through in the sixth inning. After
Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, Mass.) singled and moved into scoring position, rookie
Ashlee Mastrodomenico (Middleboro, Mass.) delivered an RBI single to bring Dean within 3–1.
-Dean threatened again in the seventh inning with a two-out single by
Emily Yazzetti (Mahopac, N.Y.), but Blackburn recorded the final out to secure the victory.
GAME TWO: Russell Sage College 7, Dean College 2
-Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings. Dean pitcher
Natalie Hayes (Brewster, N.Y.) worked around early traffic. The Bulldogs' defense also kept Russell Sage off the scoreboard.
-Dean broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning.
Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.) reached base and moved into scoring position before eventually coming home on a Russell Sage error to give the Bulldogs a 1–0 lead.
-Russell Sage responded in the bottom of the fifth, stringing together several hits. An RBI single from Annalise Tyler tied the game before the Gators added another run on a steal of home to take a 2–1 advantage.
-Dean threatened in the sixth inning when Mastrodomenico doubled to left field. However, the Bulldogs were unable to bring the tying run across.
-Russell Sage broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on seven hits, highlighted by a two-run single from Emily O'Keefe and a two-run triple by Tyler to extend the lead to 7–1.
-The Bulldogs scratched across another run in the seventh inning when Yazzetti reached on an error and later scored on another Russell Sage miscue. Although this cut the deficit to 7–2, the comeback attempt fell short.
