KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Senior
Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.) launched her first home run of the season to help the Dean College softball team earn a 3-1 victory over the College of St. Scholastica on Friday afternoon. With the win, Dean split its final doubleheader in Kissimmee, Florida and moved to a 2-8 overall record.
GAME ONE: Montclair State University 8, Dean College 0
-The Red Hawks broke open the scoring in the top of the third inning. Zoe Turner reached on an error at third base, allowing Juliana Casillas to score the unearned run.
-They added to the lead in the fourth with an RBI double by Liz Mullen, making it 2-0 in favor of Montclair State.
-The star of the show was the Red Hawks' pitching. Jordan Tarabokia pitched a complete game, holding the Bulldogs hitless with five strikeouts.
-Dean had two baserunners in the contest, both reaching in the bottom of the first. Ramos reached on Tarabokia's only walk of the game but was quickly retired after
Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, Mass.) lined into a double play. Rookie
Ashlee Mastrodomenico (Middleboro, Mass.) later reached on a fielding error but was left stranded.
-Montclair State continued to dominate offensively, scoring six more runs in the game and securing the 8-0 victory in six innings.
GAME TWO: Dean College 3, College of St. Scholastica 1
-Looking to end their spring break on a high note, the Bulldogs entered game two on a mission. They scored the game's first run in the top of the first inning when Ramos launched a deep fly ball over the center field fence for her first home run of the year, giving Dean a 1-0 lead.
-St. Scholastica tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Bailey Gleich roped an RBI single, allowing Victoria Nelson to score and knot the score at 1-1 heading into the fifth.
-Dean pitcher
Bryce DeGasparre (Attleboro, Mass.) continued her strong outing in the circle. The junior tossed a complete game, allowing just one run on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts while facing 29 batters.
-Dean recaptured the lead in the top of the sixth inning.
Ari Amaral (Attleboro, Mass.) delivered a two-run RBI single, bringing home both
Nina Ostafin (West Hartford, Conn.) and Mastrodomenico to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 advantage.
-The Saints began their comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh when Sami Ernest worked a walk, but two quick outs by the Dean defense kept her at first. After a groundout by Abigail Gooden, the Bulldogs closed out the 3-1 victory.
