Weston, MA- The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has announced that Dean College Field Hockey Head Coach Megan Gutierrez has been named the Conference's Coach of the Year.
In her fourth season at the helm of the Bulldogs, Coach Gutierrez has brought Field Hockey to the promised land. The team successfully won their first GNAC Championship in program history and punched their ticket into the NCAA Tournament.
This season, Bulldogs finished with a program-best 9-1 record in the conference, and a 13-7 overall record. In the last three seasons, she has also doubled each of her last win totals. Her 16 total wins this year (including postseason) shatters her eight wins last season.
What makes her success more impressive is the exponential growth since Field Hockey's inception. In her first two seasons, the Bulldogs posted just one win in 30 games.
After bringing in consecutive strong recruiting classes, Coach Gutierrez and the Bulldogs have now left history in the dust and are dancing into the NCAA Tournament.
This is Coach Gutierrez's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament as a Head Coach. She has made the Tournament on three occasions as a goalkeeper for Saint Joseph's College (ME).
