Box Score FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 24, 2021– The Dean College men's lacrosse team scored seven times in the first quarter en route to a 13-9 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Albertus Magnus on Saturday afternoon.
Prior to the game, seniors Zach D'Angelo (Chelmsford, Mass.), Brandon Richardson (East Granby, Conn.), Justin Pratt (Lakeville, Mass.) and Luke Townsend (Vernon Rockville, Conn.) were honored for their years of hard work and dedication to the men's lacrosse program and Dean College.
The Bulldogs have won three games in a row to improve to 3-2 overall and in the GNAC. Albertus Magnus drops to 1-7 overall and 0-6 in GNAC play.
Dean began the game with six consecutive goals and finished the first quarter with a 7-1 lead. Freshman Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) scored three times, while sophomore Greg Centeio (Fairhaven, Mass.) added a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes of action.
Each team scored a pair of goals in a more evenly played second quarter to send the game into the halftime break with Dean in front by a score of 9-3.
The third quarter went scoreless for more than eight minutes before Dean's Christopher Wendt (Boonton, N.H.) finished a nice pass from Alvarez-Segee. The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 12-3 after goals from Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Centeio late in the third.
Albertus Magnus then began to chip away. In the final 2:16 of the frame, the Falcons scored twice off the sticks of Charles Stewart (Stratford, Conn.) and Cody Walczak (Higganum, Conn.) to make the score 12-5 heading into the fourth.
The Falcons carried the momentum into the fourth. Walczak scored twice in a 15-second span early in the stanza to pull the visitors to within 12-7.
Dean stopped the run with a goal from Alvarez-Segee, but Albertus Magnus responded with a goal less than 40 seconds later.
The game then went scoreless for nearly nine minutes before the Falcons added a late goal from Stewart to make the final 13-9.
Dean's Alvarez-Segee led all players with five goals and an assist. Centeio finished with his third straight hat trick. Sophomore Damon Shute (Gilford, N.H.) won 8-of-14 faceoffs and picked up four ground balls.
Albertus Magnus received a hat trick by Stewart and Walczak. Senior Jayme Toro (East Haven, Conn.) picked up an impressive nine ground balls.
Junior goalie Alexander Govoni (Lakeville, Mass.) earned the victory for the Bulldogs with five goals allowed and eight saves in three quarters of work. Sophomore James Rollins (Old Lyme, Conn.) played the final quarter and allowed four goals.
Falcons goalie Dane Walsh (Bethany, Conn.) made 10 stops in the loss.
