Alvarez-Segee Nets 10 Points in 18-5 Victory Over Mitchell to Close Regular Season

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Manny Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) paved the way for men's lacrosse on Tuesday afternoon, scoring 10 total points to help the team defeat Mitchell College by an 18-5 final score. With the win, the Bulldogs close out the regular season with a 9-6 record (6-5 GNAC), while the Mariners finish with at 0-13 (0-12 GNAC).

Notables:
-This was Alvarez-Segee's first double-digit performance of his career and beats his previous highest of nine points, dating back to his freshman season (@ Manhattanville, 2/28/24)

How it Happened:
-Dean wasted no time setting the tone in the first quarter, as Joseph Marra (North Branford, Conn.) scored the game's opening goal, followed quickly by back-to-back strikes from Nick Fernandez (Weymouth, Mass.) off assists from Alvarez-Segee to jump out to a 3–0 lead.
-The Bulldogs continued to dominate possession early, with Josh Hackett (Orange, Conn.) controlling the faceoff X and consistently giving Dean extra opportunities.
-Christian Whittle (Harwich, Mass.) and Alvarez-Segee added goals later in the opening frame, including a man-up tally, as Dean built a commanding 5–0 advantage.
-In the second quarter, Dean's offense stayed hot. Connor McCarthy (Whitman, Mass.) netted multiple goals, while Fernandez and Marra continued to produce, pushing the lead to double digits.
-Alvarez-Segee capped a dominant first half with two late goals in the final seconds, sending Dean into halftime with a 13–2 lead.
-The Bulldogs kept their foot on the gas in the third quarter, as McCarthy, Alvarez-Segee, and Nathan Hartshorn (Weymouth, Mass.) each found the back of the net to extend the margin.
-Jon Scherer (Norwich, Vt.) added another goal during the quarter, highlighting Dean's balanced offensive attack.
-Defensively, Dean forced turnovers and limited Mitchell's clear attempts, preventing any sustained momentum from the visitors.
-In the fourth quarter, Whittle scored again to cap the Bulldogs' scoring, while the defense continued to hold strong.
-Both David Macneil (Whitman, Mass.) and Elijah Beland (Augusta, Maine) came up with timely saves throughout, helping preserve the large lead.
-Mitchell added a late goal, but the Bulldogs maintained control from start to finish to secure the 18–5 victory.
