Men's Lacrosse Defeats Anna Maria, 10-7

FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 21, 2021– The Dean College men's lacrosse team earned a 10-7 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Anna Maria, in a driving rain at Grant Field Wednesday afternoon.  

The Bulldogs improve to 2-2 overall and in the conference. Dean hosts Albertus Magnus on Saturday at 2 p.m. Anna Maria falls to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in the GNAC. The AMCATS host Emmanuel on Saturday at noon.

Sophomore Greg Centeio (Fairhaven, Mass.) recorded his second consecutive hat trick to lead the Bulldogs in the scoring column. Freshmen Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) each scored twice. Juniors Matt Dowd (West Haven, Conn.) and Nick Dunn (Medford, Mass.) added a goal apiece. Freshman Grayson Colvin (Bernardsville, N.J.) found the back of the cage for his first collegiate tally.

Anna Maria was led by a 5-goal effort from senior Cameron Perry (Coventry, R.I.). Freshman Ethan Quinn (Dudley, Mass.) and junior Eric Glover (Baldwinville, Mass.) also scored.

Centeio scored the game's first goal, less than three minutes into the action, to give the Bulldogs a quick 1-0 lead.

The visitors then scored the next two before Dowd evened the game at 2-2 for Dean.

Perry notched a pair of goals in the final 1:17 of the first quarter to give Anna Maria a 4-2 lead heading into the second frame.

The Bulldogs regrouped during the break and controlled the scoring in the second with a 3-1 advantage to tie the game at 5-5 heading into an abbreviated halftime. Speirs scored twice in the final 3:08 of the stanza to pull Dean even in the contest.

Dean carried the momentum into the third and scored three times in 12 minutes before a Perry goal stopped the run with 1:32 showing on the clock, making the score 8-6 in favor of the home team.

Playing a man down, early in the fourth, Centeio scored on a nice feed from sophomore Jonathan Kroposki (Hollis, N.H.) to add an insurance goal for Dean.

After a goal from Glover pulled Anna Maria to within a pair, Alvarez-Segee secured the victory for Dean with his team leading ninth goal of the season.

Dean junior goalie Alexander Govoni (Lakeville, Mass.) posted his best save percentage (72%) of the season and finished with 18 saves to earn the win.

AMCATS goalie Griffin Moore (Worcester, Mass.) had 10 stops in the loss.
