Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – April 17, 2021– Dean College freshman Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) scored with eight seconds left in regulation to lift the Bulldogs to an 8-7 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road win at Emmanuel.
Today's victory marks the first for the program as a member of the GNAC.
The teams have met twice within the last week and both games were decided by one goal. Emmanuel earned an 11-10 overtime win in Franklin last Sunday.
Dean goes to 1-2 overall and in the GNAC and will host Anna Maria on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Emmanuel drops to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in conference action.
The first quarter featured the most goals in the contest as each side try to adjust their defenses. The Saints held a 4-2 advantage after 15 minutes with goals from four different players. Dean received goals from Alvarez-Segee and freshman Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.).
The Bulldogs owned the second quarter and scored three times to take a 5-4 lead into the halftime break. Speirs opened the frame with his second of the game and was followed with an unassisted tally by sophomore Greg Centeio (Fairhaven, Mass.). Junior Nick Dunn (Medford, Mass.) scored 21 seconds after Centeio to give Dean the lead.
In the third quarter, Emmanuel knotted the score at 5-5 with 5:13 showing on the clock on a goal from Thomas Quigley. The Bulldogs regained the lead at 1:12 with a man-up goal from Centeio.
The Saints tied the score again early in the fourth on a nice play set up by Drew Chant who found Joe Cuticelli for the goal. Dean took advantage of another man-up opportunity less than two minutes later. Centeio notched the hat trick and gave the Bulldogs a 7-6 lead. Emmanuel came back to tie the game for the fourth time with a goal from Ryan Castle with 9:24 showing on the clock.
The game went scoreless for more than nine minutes before senior Zach D'Angelo (Chelmsford, Mass.) found Alvarez-Segee who scored the game-winner with eight seconds to play.
Centeio finished with three goals, while Alvarez-Segee and Speirs had two apiece. Speirs added two assists and a couple of caused turnovers. Junior Matt Dowd (West Haven, Conn.) contributed four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Junior goalie Alexander Govoni (Lakeville, Mass.) earned the victory with 16 saves for the Bulldogs.
Emmanuel goalie Randy Castle allowed five goals and had seven saves before leaving the game with 24 minutes left to play. Eric Anderson took the loss with four saves and three goals allowed in the final 24 minutes of action.
