THE LEAD:
Visiting Endicott College controlled play from the start, outgunning the Dean College Bulldogs 3-0 (25-11, 25-7, 25-10) for a straight set sweep in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action on Saturday in Franklin, Mass.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Endicott scored the first five points of the opening set and exploded to a 10-3 opening lead. The Gulls did not slow down from there, outpacing the Bulldogs throughout the rest of the set to a cruise to a 25-11 opening game win.
Dean battled early in the second set, cutting the Endicott lead to 9-5 on a service error before the visitors scored four straight points to extend their lead to 13-5. After a Jake Kelley kill, Endicott responded with 12 of the next 13 points to seal the game and take a 2-0 lead.
Endicott jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the final set and never looked back, dominating the final frame 25-10 to seal the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
John Kauffman (East Providence, R.I.) led Dean with four kills while Tyler Martins (East Providence, R.I.) led the Bulldogs with 8 assists. Aaron Brody (Webster, Mass.) contributed two kills and two solo blocks.
