NASHUA, N.H. – The Dean College men's volleyball team fell in their season finale on Thursday night, losing to Rivier University by a final score of 3-0. With the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss, the Bulldogs finished the season with a 6-18 record (0-7 GNAC). Meanwhile, the Raiders clinched a postseason berth with a 13-11 record (5-2 GNAC)
How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs jumped on the board in the match's early moments. Senior
Arthur Felicio (Saugus, Brazil), playing in his final collegiate match, scored the team's first kill.
Travis Johnson (Taunton, Mass.) followed suit with a kill of his own.
-Johnson played a vital role in the opening points, securing multiple kills and two consecutive service aces. His aces also helped Dean secure an early 10-5 advantage.
-
Hunter Armitage (Westerly, R.I.) joined the ace parade a few moments later. Also playing in his final match, Armitage laced two straight aces, improving Dean's lead to 17-11. Dean recorded seven total service aces in the first set.
-However, Rivier began to mount their comeback. The Raiders scored nine of the next ten points, including several kills from Matthew McCloskey, to take set one by a score of 25-22.
-Like the first set, Dean got out to an early lead in the middle frame. Felicio and
Brandon Mimande (East Providence, R.I.) each scored multiple kills to propel the Bulldogs to a 7-1 lead.
-Rivier quickly clawed their way back. McCloskey continued his dominance at the net, striking three straight kills to bring the Raiders within two points.
-The Raiders took control of the set at point 28. They scored nine of the next ten points, jumping into a 20-17 lead. Despite kills from Mimande and
Noah Allan (Windham, N.H.), the Raiders went on to take the set with a final score of 25-20. They also led the match with a score of 2-0.
-In the final set, Rivier was the team to take the first lead. They opened with a 10-3 advantage, including points from James Levesque and Cody Sodoyer.
-Senior
Jerney Price (San Antonio, Texas) closed out his Dean career in style. The outside hitter secured one of his final kills, keeping Dean within striking distance. Price also scored Dean's final kill of the evening.
