Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men’s Volleyball Defeated in Tight-Knit Match with No. 17 Leopards, 3-0

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Dean College men's volleyball team did not go down without a fight on Tuesday evening. The Bulldogs posted three impressive sets in their 3-0 defeat to nationally ranked Wentworth Institute of Technology (25-17, 25-16, 25-21). With the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 6-15 (0-4 GNAC), while the Leopards improved to 16-7 (5-1 GNAC).

How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs opened the match with two closely contested points. Travis Johnson (Taunton, Mass.) grabbed the team's first kill off an assist from Hunter Armitage (Westerly, R.I.). Noah Allan (Windham, N.H.) followed suit with another kill of his own.
-While the Bulldogs held a brief 5-4 lead, Wentworth fired back with a massive rally. The Leopards responded with a 12-1 run with kills from Dylan Johnson and Krister Leya. Suddenly, the Leopards held an 18-7 advantage.
-The Bulldogs brought it back within eight with a service ace from first-year Brandon Mimande (East Providence. R.I.). He later snagged his first kill of the match off an assist from Armitage.
-Dean snagged their 17th point of the set off a solo kill from Antonio Varela (East Providence, R.I.). Kowalewski's reception jumped back over the net, allowing Varela to bring home the slam.
-However, Wentworth finished the set with an attack error by Mimande. They now led the match 1-0.
-Set two brought very similar results. Wentworth opened with a 9-1 run, including scoring efforts from Johnson and Cody Popp. Luke McQuaid also dunked a service ace.
-Arthur Felicio (Saugus, Brazil) snagged the team's first kill of set two, breaking the scoring streak for the Leopards. Mimande quickly followed with his second kill of the match.
-The Bulldogs brought the margin within six points after another Mimande service ace. Felicio and Armitage aided with consecutive kills, keeping the scoring close.
-Wentworth finished set two with another score from Johnson. They led 2-0 going into the third set.
-The night's final set proved to be Dean's closest. They stayed within one point of Wentworth through the first 23 rallies. First-year Naya Phillip (East Providence, R.I.) entered the match and provided scoring assistance at the front of the net. The trio of Mimande, Felicio, and Allan also continued their scoring ways.
-However, Wentworth found another scoring run halfway through the set. They scored seven straight points, taking a 21-12 lead.
-With their backs against the wall, the Bulldogs found a way to stay alive. They scored eight of the next nine points, including six different Wentworth errors. Mimande also grabbed his fourth and final kill of the night.
-Despite bringing it within two (23-21), Wentworth closed the match with kills from McQuaid and William Biggs. They walked away victorious with a final score of 3-0.
