THE LEAD:
Despite a hot start in head coach Joe Hanrahan's first tilt at the helm, the Dean College Bulldogs were swept by Regis College 3-0 in non-league action on Wednesday night at Pieri Gym in Franklin, Mass.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After falling behind 2-0 in the opening set, Dean rattled off four straight points and seven of the next 11 to take a 7-5 lead. Regis rallied, tying the game at 11 before ripping off eight straight points to take a 19-11 lead. Dean scored two straight to cut the deficit to 19-13, but Regis closed out the opening set with six straight points to take a 25-13 first set win.
Regis roared out of the gate in set two, scoring the first four points en route to an 8-2 early advantage. Dean battled back, closing the gap to 8-4, but the Bulldogs would get no closer as the Pride cruised to a 25-7 victory.
Regis took a commanding 11-2 lead in the final set. Despite a strong rally from the Bulldogs that eventually closed the deficit to 20-14, the visitors held on for a 25-15 win that sealed the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Four players led the Bulldogs with two kills: Taisha Alexandre (Quincy, Mass.), Miranda Marquez (San Pedro, Calif.), Melanie Rios-Nevarez (Vega Alta, Puerto Rico), and Kait Anderson (Clinton, Conn.). Freshman Sadie Homer (North Easton, Mass.) and Rios-Nevarez each added four assists, while Amanda Payne (Millis, Mass.) led the way with fourteen digs.
