THE LEAD:
The Dean College Bulldogs were outpaced by the New England College Pilgrims on Saturday, falling 3-0 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action in Henniker, N.H. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
NEC controlled play out of the gate, leading 5-0 and later 17-5 in the first set. Dean scored five straight to close the gap to 17-10, but the Pilgrims took momentum back and finished the set 25-13.

The hosts outshined Dean throughout the second set, taking an early lead and never relinquishing control. After a Kait Anderson (Clinton, Conn.) service ace closed the deficit to 7-6, NEC scored 11 of the next 12 points to take a commanding lead.  The Pilgrims finished off the set with a 25-11 win. 

Dean stayed close throughout the final set, battling with the hosts and closing the gap to 17-13 before NEC rattled off three straight.  Dean scored two straight off a kill from Miranda Marquez (San Pedro, Calif.) and an attack error from the Pilgrims, but NEC scored the final five points to take the set and the match.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Anderson led the Bulldogs with nine kills and six digs, while Melanie Rios-Nevarez (Vega Alta, Puerto Rico) contributed fifteen assists and two kills.  Marquez provided six kills and five digs and Taisha Alexandre (Quincy, Mass.) added five digs.
