Women's Volleyball Drops Two At Saints' Tri-Match

THE LEAD:
Dean dropped a pair of matches at Saturday's tri-match hosted by Emmanuel College. The Bulldogs fought Mount Ida to a fifth set but fell, 3-2 and the slipped up against the host Saints, 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Against Mount Ida, the Bulldogs rallied from a set down to take the fourth 25-23, forcing a fifth and final set.
  • The Mustangs outhit Dean in that decisive set, collecting 14 kills to the Bulldogs five to take the match.
  • It marked the first five set match of the year for Dean and just the third in the two-year history of the program.
  • In the nightcap against the host Saints, Emmanuel jumped out on the Bulldogs early on their way to the 25-17 first set victory.
  • By the time the third set had rolled around the Saints were in total control taking that set 25-11 to improve to 5-10 overall.

BY THE NUMBERS:

  • In the opener against the Mustangs, Sami Mulcahy (Taunton, Mass.) had 26 digs and then followed that up with 16 more against Emmanuel.
  • Aminah Tsonga (Plainville, Conn.) had 15 kills against Mount Ida and then handed out ten assists in the nightcap against the Saints.
  • Melanie Rios-Nevarez (Alta Vega, Puerto Rico) doled out 26 assists against the Mustangs to go along with 11 digs, while Kaitlyn Anderson (Clinton, Conn.) had ten kills and seven digs in the opener.

UP NEXT:

  • The Bulldogs kickoff a four-match home stand on Tuesday against NECC rival Bay Path. That contest is slated for a 7:00 PM first serve.
