Softball Hits Three Home Runs to Earn Split with Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. – April 28, 2021– The Dean College softball team split Wednesday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader with Anna Maria. The AMCATS won the first game 8-3, while Dean took game two 8-6.

Dean goes to 2-8 overall and 2-6 in the GNAC, while Anna Maria is now 4-16 overall and 1-11 in conference action.

GAME ONE – Anna Maria 8, Dean 3

Anna Maria was clicking at the plate in the day's first game. The AMCATS finished with 15 hits en route to the 8-3 victory.

The home team got things started early, scoring four times in the first. They added a pair of runs in the second, including Kiara Edmonds' second RBI single of the game.

A sacrifice fly by Shay Savoie then gave the AMCATS a 7-0 lead after three.

The Bulldogs scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning. First-year Madison Mayo (North Attleboro, Mass.) knocked in sophomore Alex Marie (Danvers, Mass.) with an infield single. First-year Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) then scored on a double steal with Mayo. Mayo then came around on a Bridget McDonough (North Reading, Mass.) to right field.

Anna Maria added a run in the sixth on an RBI double from Eden Forget.

Sabrina Liston struck out nine in the complete game victory without surrendering an earned run.

Sophomore Jaylee Martinez (Pawtucket, R.I.) was saddled with the complete game loss.

Forget and Edmonds each finished with three hits to lead the AMCATS.

GAME TWO – Dean 8, Anna Maria 6

The Bulldogs used the long ball to earn a split on Wednesday, pounding three home runs in the night cap.

Sari Albury and Jaylee Martinez each hit a two-run home run in the first inning to give Dean a 4-0 lead.

Anna Maria got on the board in the third on an RBI single from Forget.

Dean increased its lead to 8-1 in the fourth, scoring four more runs. Two of the runs came off the bat of Albury who hit her second two-run home run of the game.

Anna Maria cut into the deficit in the fifth with four runs. Kaitlyn Snyder had the big hit in the frame with a two-run single to center field.

The AMCATS added a run in the sixth, but the Bulldogs held on for the 8-6 victory.

Albury finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs, two homeruns and two runs scored. Madison Mayo had two hits in three at-bats.

Sophomore Zoe Coleman (Warwick, R.I.) earned her second win of the season on the mound for Dean. She tossed a complete game and struck out three.

Hailey Shaw scored three times for Anna Maria.
