Mastrodomenico Secures Walk-Off, Softball Splits Series with Colby-Sawyer Chargers

FRANKLIN, Mass. – First-year Ashlee Mastrodomenico (Middleboro, Mass.) secured the walk-off winning hit on Wednesday afternoon, giving the Dean College softball team a 7-6 victory in extra innings over Colby-Sawyer College. The Bulldogs and Chargers have split the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) series, with game two being rescheduled from April 1st. The victory moves Dean to 9-19 overall (5-9 GNAC), while the Chargers dropped to 2-16 (2-12 GNAC).

How it Happened
-Colby-Sawyer struck first in the opening inning, but Dean answered immediately in the bottom half. Leah Chamberlain (Burlington, Vt.) delivered an RBI single to tie the game, and Liana Silva (New Britain, Conn.) followed with an RBI double to give the Bulldogs a 2–1 lead.
-The Chargers evened the score in the second inning, but Dean responded again when Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.) lifted a sacrifice fly to score Ari Amaral (Attleboro, Mass.), putting the Bulldogs back in front 3–2.
-Dean added to the lead in the fourth inning. Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, Mass.) reached scoring position, allowing Ramos to come through with an RBI double to make it 4–2.
-Colby-Sawyer chipped away with a run in the fifth and tied the game 4–4 in the sixth, but the Bulldogs answered right back in the bottom half.
-With two runners aboard in the sixth inning, Amaral delivered one of the game's biggest hits, lining a two-run single to score Nina Ostafin (West Hartford, Conn.) and L. Silva, giving Dean a 6–4 advantage.
-The Chargers mounted one final push in the seventh, plating two runs to force extra innings at 6–6.
-In the international tiebreaker, Dean executed in the clutch. Katrina Lee (Brookline, N.H.) pinch ran and was placed on second to start the inning. Then, with one swing of the bat, Mastrodomenico delivered the walk-off RBI single to lift the Bulldogs to the 7–6 extra-inning victory.
