FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 18, 2021– The Dean College baseball team lost both ends of Sunday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader against Lasell. The Lasers won the first game 17-2 and hung on for a 14-9 triumph in game two.
Lasell improves to 7-15 overall and 6-4 in the GNAC. Dean drops to 3-3 on the season. The two teams will meet again on Wednesday for a single nine-inning game at the Longley Athletic Complex.
GAME ONE – Lasell 17, Dean 2
Joe Sullivan (Sandwich, Mass.) put the Lasers on top with an RBI triple in the first inning.
In the fourth inning, junior Matt Bischof (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) was summoned to pinch hit with the bases loaded and he delivered a grand slam to put Lasell in front 5-0.
The visitors added two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and seven in the seventh. Dean put across single runs in the sixth and seventh to account for the 17-2 margin.
Justin Banks (Corona, Calif.) and Charlie Danaher (Guilford, Conn.) had three hits apiece for Lasell. Wyatt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn.) and Sullivan each recorded three RBIs.
Darek Lallo (Warwick, R.I.) improved to 3-1 on the season with five strong innings. He allowed one run on four hits and struck out five.
For Dean, junior Ryan Gallagher (Methuen, Mass.) had a pair of hits, while senior Matt Callahan (Attleboro, Mass.) was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Senior Gaten Davis (Anchorage, Alaska) suffered the loss after four innings of work.
GAME TWO – Lasell 14, Dean 9
Lasell struck early again in game two with two runs in the first. Dean quickly responded with four runs in the bottom half of the frame. Senior Brian Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.), Gallagher, senior Landon Fish (New Port Richey, Fla.) and junior Daniel Lilja (Lynn, Mass.) each knocked in a run in the inning.
A Sihvonen RBI single pulled Lasell within one in the second inning, but the Lasers erupted for seven runs in the third to take a 10-4 lead. The big hits in the inning were a two-run triple from senior Harrison Silva (Lowell, Mass.) and a two-run homer to left field by Danaher.
Dean got a run back in the bottom of the third on a fielder's choice by Gallagher.
The Bulldogs chipped away again in the fourth with two runs on a Tommy Troy Jr. (Norwalk, Conn.) sac fly and a Callahan single.
Lasell widened the gap once again, 13-7, in the sixth on a two-run homer to center off the bat of Joe Sullivan and a Silva single.
In the bottom of the sixth, Callahan knocked in junior Matt Troy (Norwalk, Conn.) with a sac fly, while Hadden doubled to left to score Troy Jr.
Lasell tacked on a run in the seventh to make the final 14-9.
Jay Giangrande (Andover, Mass.) was credited with the win. He threw 3.2 innings of relief and gave up three runs.
Silva was perfect at the plate for Lasell going 4-for-4 with three RBI. Sihvonen and Ross Audet (Swansea, Mass.) had three hits apiece.
Hadden finished 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI to lead the Bulldogs. Lilja added three hits in four at-bats.
