Baseball Takes Down Colby-Sawyer in Pod Play Opening Game, Will Play Mitchell in Saturday Matinee

FRANKLIN, Mass. – After an impressive 12-hit performance, the Dean College baseball team took down Colby-Sawyer College in the opening game of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) pod play on Friday afternoon by a final score of 11-1.
With the victory, the Bulldogs will play their second game of the bracket at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, Mary 1st, against #1 Mitchell College. Meanwhile, the Chargers play at 8:30 a.m. against #8 Elms College.

-With the victory, the Bulldogs officially secure their first postseason victory in program history.

How it Happened
-After a scoreless top of the first, the Bulldogs were the first team find the box score in the bottom half. Spencer Lichtrahl (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) laced an RBI single into left field, allowing Jacob Paschetto (East Longmeadow, Mass.) to score. Dean now led 1-0 after one frame of action.
-Dean clawed their way into another run during the bottom of the third. Gavin Goss (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) recorded a sacrifice flyout, sending home the second run of the game. Dean found themselves up 2-0 after three.
-Curran continued to deal for the Bulldogs, allowing just four hits in the first five innings. He also retired all three batters, in order, in the top of the fifth.
-The Bulldogs broke the score open at the bottom of the fifth, scoring six runs on five hits and an error. After a pair of singles, Lichstrahl boasted a double into deep right find, scoring a pair of runs. This extended the lead to 4-0.
-Colin Favata (Syosset, N.Y.) then brought in another run on a sacrifice bunt and eventually reached base on a botched transfer at third base. Dean now led 5-0.
-Nick Amendolara (Bayville, N.Y.) and Dylan Altermatt (North Branford, Conn.) wrapped up the scoring with RBIs of their own. The pair of hitters brought in three runs combined, giving Dean an 8-0 lead going into the top of the sixth.
-Curran retired the Chargers again in the top half, giving the Bulldogs more life in the bottom half. Two runners initially reached base, and after by Jared Schmitt in left field, they scored. Amendolara reached base on the same action, putting the Bulldogs in front by double digits (10-0).
-Colby-Sawyer got one back in the top of the seventh after a sacrifice flyout from Schmitt. Dean low led by nine going into the bottom half.
-With a chance to end the game in the seventh, the Bulldogs took to the occasion. Tyler Giambra (Prospect, Conn.) and Fahey reached base to begin the frame. The Chargers also intentionally walked Paschetto, creating a force out at any base. However, Goss made sure that didn't happen. The senior forced an error at first base, bringing home the winning run.
-The Bulldogs took the game by the run rule with a final score of 11-1.
