Box Score 2 FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 18, 2021– The Dean College softball team fell to Simmons in both games of Sunday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader. The Sharks won the first game 9-2 and second game 18-1.
Simmons improves to 2-4, while Dean falls to 1-5. The Bulldogs will travel to Anna Maria for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
GAME ONE – Simmons 9, Dean 2
Simmons scored three times in the first. Adlyn Hernandez knocked in a run and later came around to score in the frame.
The Sharks added two more in the second on an error to take a 5-0 lead.
The visitor's lead ballooned to 9-0 in the fifth inning. Sam Barr had an RBI single and then scored on a three-run homer by Allie Mulhern.
Dean got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when junior Miranda Seacord (Cambridge, N.Y.) hit a two-run triple to score sophomores Alex Marie (Danvers, Mass.) and Aili Sacco (New Rochelle, N.Y.).
Maddie Castigliego earned the win for Simmons with a complete game. She allowed two runs on six hits and struck out six.
Sophomore Jaylee Martinez (Pawtucket, R.I.) took the loss but only surrendered two earned runs in the complete game.
GAME TWO – Simmons 18, Dean 1
The Sharks made a splash in the first inning with three runs and never looked back. Simmons would go on and score six in the second, two in the third and fourth and five more in the fifth to account for the 18 runs.
Dean put their lone run across in bottom of the third when first-year Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) knocked in Seacord with a double to left center.
Hailey Yabroudy earned the win for Simmons with five innings of one-run ball and six strikeouts.
Seacord and sophomore Gianna Bencivengo (Valhalla, N.Y.) each had two hits to lead the Dean offense.
Five Sharks finished with two hits, while Ivy Vann scored a game best five runs.
