Box Score FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 14, 2021– The Dean College women's lacrosse team was defeated by Johnson & Wales, 19-3, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Wednesday afternoon at Grant Field.
JWU improves to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the GNAC. Dean falls to 0-4 and will travel to Lasell next Wednesday for a 4 p.m. contest with the Lasers.
After sophomore Maire Brown (Huntington, N.Y.), the reigning GNAC Rookie of the Week, put the Bulldogs on top 1-0, JWU went on a 6-0 run to take a comfortable lead and never looked back.
The Wildcats took a 12-3 lead into the halftime break and was led by senior Marley Medina's (South Hadley, Mass.) four goals. Brown had a pair for Dean to go with a tally from sophomore Jasmine Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.).
JWU continued to click on offense in the second half and added seven goals en route to the 19-3 victory.
Medina led the way for the visitors with four goals and three assists. First-year Maris DiBenedetto (Southbury, Conn.) was second on the team with three goals and an assist.
Brown scored twice to lead Dean and added two draw controls. Sztyler-Magee finished with a goal and five draw controls.
First-year Emma Crowley (Leicester, Mass.) allowed three goals and made three stops in 46 minutes of action to earn the win. Sophomore Bryce Naiman (Midlothian, Va.) worked the final 14 minutes and had one save.
Dean sophomore goalie Jada Fields (Acushnet, Mass.) had 10 saves.
