Women's Lacrosse Bested by Simmons in Final Contest of Season

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Dean College women's lacrosse team was bested in their final game of the season by Simmons University on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 13-3. With the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss, the Bulldogs end the year with a 3-13 record (3-10 GNAC). Meanwhile, the Sharks end their season at 5-10 overall (5-8 GNAC).

How it Happened:
-Dean struck first just 1:25 into the opening quarter. Ali Murphy (Middleboro, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal to give the Bulldogs an early 1–0 lead.
-The Bulldogs played strong early defense behind goalkeeper Shea Cassani (Belgrade, Maine) who made several key saves in the opening quarter to keep the game close.
-Simmons answered with a pair of goals late in the first to take a 2–1 lead after one.
-In the second quarter, Dean continued to battle defensively, but Simmons used a 4-0 period to extend its lead to 6–1 at halftime.
-Cassani kept the Bulldogs within reach during the opening half, turning away multiple point-blank attempts and anchoring a defense under heavy pressure.
-Dean opened the third quarter with a spark, as Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, R.I.) converted a man-up goal just 12 seconds into the period to trim the deficit to 6–2.
-Simmons responded with a seven-goal run in the third, using transition opportunities to build separation.
-Despite the surge, Dean continued to compete, with Bella McQuade (North Attleboro, Mass.), Alisha Caldeira (West Bridgewater, Mass.), and Rylee Jackson (East Providence, R.I.) contributing defensive plays and ground ball pickups.
-In the fourth quarter, Caroline Ramsey (Shreveport, La.) added an unassisted goal for the Bulldogs, capping Dean's scoring with just over two minutes to play.
-Cassani continued to stand tall in goal throughout the contest, finishing with 21 saves, one of her top performances of the season.
-Dean battled through all four quarters, but Simmons ultimately took the win by the 13–3 final score.
