Box Score 2 FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 11, 2021– The Dean College baseball team split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader with Saint Joseph's College (ME) on Sunday afternoon. Dean won the first game 9-3, while Saint Joseph's took game two 10-7.
Dean goes to 3-1 overall and in GNAC play, while Saint Joseph's goes to 12-10 overall land 3-1 in conference action. The Bulldogs will play a home-and-home with Lasell next weekend.
GAME ONE – Dean 9, Saint Joseph's 3
The visitors took a 2-0 lead when Luke Stephens plated a pair with a double in the top of the first.
Dean broke through in a big way with five runs in the third to take a 5-2 lead, which they would not relinquish. The big hit in the inning came from sophomore Brian Dovidio (Ramsey, N.J.) who knocked in a pair with a double.
The Bulldogs tacked on a run in the fourth on an RBI single from senior Brian Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.).
Saint Joseph's got a run back in the fifth on an RBI fielder's choice from Jackson Stanton.
Dean senior Landon Fish (New Port Richey, Fla.) added plenty of insurance in the sixth with a bases clearing double to put the Bulldogs on top for good, 9-3.
Junior Ethan Bernardo (Pawtucket, R.I.) went six strong innings to earn the win for Dean. He allowed one earned run on five hits and struck out three. Senior Ryan Stover (Middleboro, Mass.) pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Hadden went 3-for-3 with two runs, while Fish registered a game best four RBIs. Junior Tommy Troy Jr. (Norwalk, Conn.) scored two runs and had two hits.
Stephens finished with two hits and two RBI to lead the Monks.
GAME TWO – Saint Joseph's 10, Dean 7
The Monks earned the split with a big offensive game two. They scored four times in the first with three RBI singles. Dylan Fournier knocked in a pair with his single.
Dean responded right away with three in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run double by Brian Dovidio and a run-scoring passed ball.
A wild pitch put across a run for Saint Joseph's in the second and the Monks extended their lead to 7-3 with a pair of runs in the third. Fournier and Hunter Richardson had RBI knocks in the frame.
Once again, the Bulldogs answered with three runs in the bottom half of the third. Junior Daniel Lilja (Lynn, Mass.) scored a pair with a double and was followed by Dovidio scoring on a passed ball.
Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Bulldogs would get as Saint Joseph's plated three runs in the fourth to make the score 10-6.
Dean got a run in the sixth off a Brian Hadden RBI double to account for the final score of 10-7.
Hadden added two hits to his impressive weekend at the plate for the Bulldogs. Dovidio and Lilja had two RBIs apiece.
The Monks received a 4-for-4 effort from Ben Gravel, while Luke Stephens, Richardson and Fournier each finished with three hits. Stephens scored three runs and knocked in a pair and Fournier had three RBIs.
