FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 10, 2021– The Dean College softball team dropped both ends of Saturday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader to Albertus Magnus. The Falcons took game one 7-1 and followed with an 8-2 game two victory.
The Dean Softball team wore pink socks and ribbons to support Breast Cancer Awareness as part of Division III Week.
Dean falls to 1-3 overall and in the GNAC, while Albertus Magnus improves to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in conference action. The Bulldogs are back in action next Sunday, April 18 to host Simmons for a doubleheader.
GAME ONE – Albertus Magnus 7, Dean 1
The visitors scored an unearned run in the top of the first and doubled their advantage in the top of the second on a homerun by Erin Molkenthin.
In the top of the third, Ivy Geloso hit a two-run homerun over the left field fence to put Albertus Magnus on top 4-0.
The Falcons added another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to go on top 7-0.
Dean got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh when junior Miranda Seacord (Cambridge, N.Y.) came around on a wild pitch.
Albertus Magnus pitcher Laura Anderson earned the win with a complete game. She did not allow an earned run and gave up four hits.
Sophomore Zoe Coleman (Warwick, R.I.) suffered her first loss of the season going the distance and giving up four earned runs on seven hits.
Sophomore Gianna Bencivengo (Valhalla, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 to lead the Dean offense.
Janelle Franklin and Jess Stettinger each had two hits for the Falcons.
GAME TWO – Albertus Magnus 8, Dean 2
Albertus Magnus struck for four runs in the first with the big hit coming from Kayla Resto. She knocked in a pair with a single down the right field line.
The Bulldogs cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the frame after Gianna Bencivengo hit a towering two-run homerun into the left field trees.
The Falcons responded two innings later with four runs in the third to take an 8-2 lead, which proved to be the eventual final score. Jess Stettinger hit a solo homerun.
First-year Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) took the loss. Sophomore Jaylee Martinez (Pawtucket, R.I.) tossed 4.1 innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts.
Laura Anderson picked up her second win of the day. She appeared in the second inning and went the rest of the way allowing seven hits and striking out six.
Bencivengo finished with a pair of hits, while first-year Madison Mayo (North Attleboro, Mass.) was perfect at the plate going 3-for-3 to lead Dean. Martinez chipped in with a pair of hits.
Kayla Resto added two more hits to her day at the plate as did Erin Molkenthin.
