THE LEAD:
Cassandra Nelson scored six goals – all in the first half and the host Becker College held on for an 11-6 win over Dean in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Nelson started the game off on fire, scoring the contest's first four goals and five of the first six to put the Hawks in front early.
In fact, Becker went into halftime in front 9-1 with the Bulldogs' lone score coming courtesy of Genesis Johnson (Norwalk, Conn.) in the 21st minute.
Things changed dramatically in the second half as Makayla Fisher (Irvington, N.J.) personally willed Dean back into the game with four straight goals, making the game, 9-5 with 15 minutes remaining.
Becker, however, got two huge goals less than a minute apart from Sydney Theriault to steal back the momentum and send the Hawks on to victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Fisher paced the Bulldogs with four goals and five draw controls, while Lauryn Wilks (Hartford, Conn.) totaled a game-best seven ground balls and added four draw controls.
Jamaya Cleveland (Greensboro, Ga.) made 12 saves in net for Dean.
UP NEXT:
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday when they wrap up the home portion of their schedule with a 4:00 p.m. start against Mitchell College.
