THE LEAD:
MCLA star senior Mackenzie Cutler pumped in eight goals and scooped up five groundballs to lead the host Trailblazers to a 17-12 win over Dean College in non-league women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.
Cutler's huge performance overshadowed several outstanding showings for Dean, who slips to 0-3 on the year. Most notably, Jamaya Cleveland (Greensboro, Ga.), who playing in goal for the first time in her career, ended with seven saves and four groundballs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The contest was a back-and-forth affair with Genesis Johnson (Norwalk, Conn.) and Lauryn Wilks (Hartford, Conn.) answering two goals from Rachel Green and one from Cutler in the early moments of the contest.
Green's second marker was the first of four-goal run for the Trailblazers as Cutler netted a pair and Brianna Morris fired in a free position shot.
Down 6-2, the Bulldogs got consecutive goals from Frantzleine Nherisson (Lowell, Mass.) and Makayla Fisher (Irvington, N.J.) to close the gap.
After MCLA answered back with three straight, Dean scored the final two of the half, getting tallies from Nherisson and Wilks to go into halftime, down 9-6.
Cutler opened the second half scoring four in the first 15 minutes surrounded by a Fisher score that made the score 12-7.
MCLA's Briana Morris traded goals with Fisher and Wilks and when the Trailblazers got a free position strike from Andrea Villars, suddenly they were in front, 16-9.
Dean did get three of the game's final four goals with Nherisson, Briana Saunders (Irvington, N.J.) and Fisher all get scores before the final horn sounded.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Fisher erupted for four goals of her own for the Bulldogs, who got three goals each from Nherisson and Wilks.

Dean is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Albertus Magnus for a 6:00 p.m. start.
