Bulldogs Run Away From Newbury

Box Score

Franklin, MASS.- Paced by 28 points and 14 rebounds form freshman forward Naquwan Solomon, the Dean College Bulldogs ran away from Newbury College to win 94-70 at Pieri Gym on Tuesday.

Dean was in control for most of the game.  The Bulldogs played stretches of stifling defense and shot 46% from the field (54% in the 2nd half).  Dean had a dominant 66-48 lead in points in the paint and a telling 38-12 advantage in points off turnovers.

After falling behind 4-0 in the opening minutes, the Bulldogs settled down.  After a timeout from Coach Rico Cabral, Dean responded to tie the game at 6 on a layup from Dayvon Russell.  A layup from Justin White three minutes later capped an 11-4 run and gave Dean a 17-10 lead.

Solomon scored 7 straight points midway through the first half to push the Bulldogs cushion to 12, and the Bulldogs closed the half up 11 (49-38).

A three pointer from Newbury's Daivon Edwards cut the lead to 7 at the 18:26 mark, but the Nighthawks would get no closer.  Dean blew it open with great defense and transition offense.

Solomon made three layups and hit a free throw, and Justin White, Kendall Hamilton, and John Lambert also added layups in transition as the Bulldogs ripped off a 17-2 run in just over two minutes.  The game was never in doubt after that.

In addition to Solomon's big game, Russell had 11 points and 5 boards, and Randolph Thurman and Hamilton both scored 9.

Newbury was powerd by 14 points from Edwards.  Josh Oliver added 11 points and Ato Bostio and Jeduan Langston both scored 10.  Botsio had 9 rebounds as well.

The win was the Bulldogs second in a row and improves their record to 14-10.  The loss drops Newbury to 1-19.

Next, Dean travels to Uconn-Avery Point on Thursday for a 8 PM tip.

Newbury plays Plymouth St. on Thursday at Hellenic College at 7 PM.
