Important Issues To Remember | Current Student-Athletes | Prospective Student-Athletes | Links You Need
- As a Dean College student-athlete, you are obligated to abide by the NCAA, Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) and institutional bylaws.
- A mandatory compliance orientation is conducted for all in-coming and returning Dean College student-athletes at the beginning of each academic year.
If a student-athlete is looking to transfer to a Division I or II institution, you must notify the Associate Director of Athletics for further assistance.
Transfer
Under NCAA rules, coaches from other collegiate institutions are prohibited from speaking to potential transfer students until permission is granted by the Associate Director of Athletics (Ashley Magruda-Wood).
- If a student-athlete is looking to transfer to another Division III institution, the student-athlete may fill out a Self-Release form.
Sports Wagering Activities
Student-athletes shall not knowingly participate in sports wagering activities or provide information to individuals involved in or associated with any type of sports wagering activities concerning intercollegiate, amateur, or professional athletics competition.
- NO partaking in sports wagering activities through the internet, bookmaker (bookie), or a parlay card.
- NO influencing the outcome of a contest or in an effort to affect the win-loss margins (point shaving).
- NO partaking in sports wagering activities through the internet, bookmaker (bookie), a parlay card, auctions in which bids are placed on contest, individuals or teams, and pools or fantasy leagues in which a fee is required to participate and there is an opportunity to win a prize.
Violation of this bylaw will be reviewed case-by-case. The student-athlete is declared ineligible to compete, however can appeal the decision with the NCAA Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee.
Medical Hardship Waiver
There is
NO red-shirting in Division III. In the case of a season-ending injury, a student-athlete may apply for a hardship waiver to regain eligibility. To be considered, three things must occur:
- The season-ending injury or illness had occurred in the first half of the traditional season.
- The season ending injury or illness does not need to be an athletic related injury or illness.
- The student-athlete did not compete in 1/3 of the regular season scheduled contest.
- Medical documentation from a physician (i.e. orthopedic doctor) must be submitted certifying the student-athlete's inability to compete for the remainder of the season.

A student-athlete who is ineligible may not practice nor compete in their sport.
An exception to the above is when a student-athlete is in his or her final semester or quarter of their baccalaureate program. Please read the following bylaw per NCAA.
Season of Participation
A student-athlete shall complete his or her seasons or participation during the first 10 semesters in which the student is enrolled in a collegiate institution in at least a minimum full-time program of studies. A season of participation is counted when a student-athlete practices or competes during or after the first contest in the traditional segment (in-season).
Academic Requirements:
To practice or compete, a student-athlete must be enrolled as a full-time student attempting 12 credit hours, and be in good academic standing.
