FRANKLIN, Mass. – Senior
Danielle Reinhard (Las Vegas, Nev.) shined in the Monday rain, making twelve saves against Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Rivier University. However, despite her best efforts, the Dean College women's soccer team was defeated by a final score of 2-0. With the loss, Dean dropped to 2-8-1 (1-4-0 GNAC), while Rivier improved to 6-1-1 (4-0 GNAC).
How it Happened:
-Reinhard and the Dean defense kept Rivier off the scoreboard during a busy opening half. Rivier registered 11 shots in the first 45 minutes, but Reinhard made four saves, while the Bulldogs weathered several dangerous chances, including shots that hit the post and crossbar.
-
Kacie Consolini (Stafford Springs, Conn.) provided Dean's lone offensive shot of the afternoon in the first half, forcing a save from Rivier goalkeeper Olivia Rosario in the eighth minute.
-The Bulldogs defense continued to hold down the fort through the final minutes of the first half, keeping the game scoreless going into the break.
-Rivier broke through just 51 seconds into the second half. Leah Morrier scored at 45:51 on a quick touch inside the box. After a barrage of first half shots, Rivier had their answer.
-Dean remained within one goal as Rivier continued to generate opportunities. Reinhard made consecutive saves on shots from Kayla Francillon, Cara Churchill and Maya Leach during a stretch in the final 15 minutes.
-Meanwhile, the Dean back line of
Kassidy Martins (East Providence, R.I.),
Lilly Giovannucci (Wenham, Mass.),
Makenzie Sparacia (Old Westbury, N.Y.), and
Kenzie Sherburne (Durham, N.Y.) worked to limit the Raiders' chances.
-Rivier added an insurance goal at 86:47. Hannah Smith created the initial header attempt, forcing a Reinhard save. Churchill then pushed home the rebound to make it 2-0.
-Reinhard finished with 12 saves, her second-highest single-game total of the season, as Rivier finished with 28 shots and 14 shots on goal.
