New London, N.H. – The Dean College Field Hockey team suffered their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss of the season on a rainy Saturday afternoon in New London, dropping their contest with Colby Sawyer College 3-0. The loss snapped a program record of 14 straight GNAC wins, dating back to last year's playoffs and regular season. The Bulldogs now stand at 6-2 (2-1 GNAC) while the Chargers improved to 7-1 (2-0 GNAC).
How it Happened:
-
The two sides played a tightly contested first quarter, which featured only four shots. The single shot on goal, off the stick of Dean's Emily Yazzetti (Mahopac, N.Y.) was saved by Charger goalkeeper Sophie Krauss.
-
Yazzetti opened the third quarter with another shot on goal, stopped again by Krauss. Two minutes later, the Chargers broke through the scoreless tie, converting a penalty corner attempt as Brooke Farquhar reached the back of the net to give Colby-Sawyer the 1-0 lead.
-
The Bulldogs' offensive attack continued through the beginning of the fourth quarter, with two shots from junior Emma Gragen (Brattleboro, V.T.), one from junior Katrina Lee (Brookline, N.H.) and another from Yazzetti, but were unable to breakthrough the defense of the Chargers.
