FRANKLIN, Mass. – Senior defender
Kassidy Martins (East Providence, R.I.) scored on a penalty kick in the 68th minute, breaking a 0-0 stalemate and powering the Dean College Bulldogs women's soccer team to the eventual 1-0 victory over New England College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday at Grant Field. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 2-5-1 (1-2 GNAC), while NEC drops to 4-2-1 (0-1-1 GNAC).
How it Happened:
-Dean controlled the pace throughout most of the match. The Bulldogs outshot NEC 6-2 in the scoreless first half, with senior
Kacie Consolini (Stafford Springs, Conn.) accounting for a team-high five shots (three in the first-half), including two that beat the keeper only to be turned aside by the goalpost.
-Sophomore
Colleen McIntrye (Southwick, Mass.) subbed into the game in the second half and provided an immediate impact, launching two shots, including one on goal.
-The Bulldogs continued to put the pressure on early in the second half, but were unable to break through the NEC defense, until the 68th minute when the visitors were called for a foul in the box.
-Martins stepped up to take the penalty kick and calmly drilled her shot into the left-hand side of the goal, beating NEC keeper Estrella Michaelidis wide past her outstretched hand.
-Dean keeper
Danielle Reinhard (Las Vegas, Nev.) kept the Pilgrims off the scoreboard, preserving the clean sheet with three saves.
