STANDISH, Maine. – The Dean College women's soccer team was defeated in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener to Saint Joseph's College of Maine by a final score of 5-0 on Saturday. With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 1-3-1 (0-1-0) while the Monks improved to 1-3-0 (1-0-0).
How it Happened:
-Saint Joseph's opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Jordan Huntley found the back of the net. Huntley struck again in the 29th minute to give the Monks a 2-0 advantage.
-Dean continued to generate opportunities despite the deficit.
Kenzie Sherburne (Durham, N.Y.) tested the Monks' defense in the 33rd minute, while
Amelia McQuiggan (Taunton, Mass.) and
Kacie Consolini (Stafford Springs, Conn.) also recorded shots shortly afterward.
-Paige Garlock added two goals late in the opening half, scoring in the 39th and 44th minutes to send Saint Joseph's into halftime with a 4-0 lead.
-Dean came out with increased offensive pressure in the second half.
Izzy Robinson (West Warwick, R.I.) put a shot on target just three minutes into the period, but it was turned away by the Saint Joseph's goalkeeper.
-The Bulldogs earned a penalty kick in the 72nd minute, but Colleen McIntyre's (Southwick, Mass.) attempt was saved.
Lainey Buffington (Plainfield, Mass.) and Robinson later created additional chances as Dean continued to look for a breakthrough.
-Annalise Stimmell added the final Saint Joseph's goal in the 85th minute.
Chloe Murdock (Milford, Mass.) finished with four saves for Dean, while the Bulldogs recorded eight corner kicks and put eight of their 11 shots on target.
