Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Sauchuk Scores Overtime Winner, Men’s Lacrosse Grabs Crucial GNAC Win Over Emmanuel, 15-14

BOSTON, Mass. – In one of the most thrilling games of the season, first-year Marc Sauchuk (Uncasville, Conn.) netted the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Dean College men's lacrosse team the 15-14 victory over Emmanuel College (Mass.) on the road. With the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win, the Bulldogs improved to 7-5 (4-4 GNAC), while the Saints dropped to 6-6 (5-2 GNAC).

How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs were the first to score just two minutes into the contest. Nick Fernandez (Weymouth, Mass.) found the back of the net, unassisted, to give Dean a 1-0 advantage.
-However, the Saints boastfully responded through the remainder of the quarter. They scored six answered goals, including one at the start of the second, to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Cole Cloney netted a hat trick during the stretch.
-After falling behind early, the Bulldogs clawed their way back into the game. They outscored Emmanuel 6-1 through the remainder of the second quarter, trailing at halftime by just one goal (7-8).
-Five different Dean players scored goals in this quarter, including brothers Connor McCarthy and Gavin McCarthy (Whitman, Mass.). Fernandez also completed his hat trick during this quarter.
-Emmanuel scored ninety seconds into the third quarter off a shot from Samuel Yan. Chase Greenlaw also picked up his second assist of the night. However, junior Manny Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) took control of the offense. He netted two consecutive goals to tie the game and eventually gave Dean the 9-8 lead.
-Both sides traded blows through the remainder of the third quarter. Alvarez-Segee potted the hat trick goal & Sauchuk scored another. At the end of three, the game was in an 11-11 deadlock.
-Fernandez opened the fourth with his fourth tally of the night. After two Emmanuel goals, Alvarez-Segee then tied the game at 13.
-Emmanuel took the lead with 2:01 remaining in the game. Ethan Madura found the back of the net on David Macneil (Whitman, Mass). The pressure was now on Dean to tie the game in the final moments.
-31 seconds later, they had their response. C. McCarthy laced an emphatic goal, assisted by Sauchuk, to tie the game at 14. After stopping the Saints in the final minute, the Bulldogs successfully forced overtime.
-Emmanuel won first possession of extra time and threatened to score. However, Dean came away with a crucial turnover caused by Kyle Kaelin (Riverhead, N.Y.). After a successful clear, Head Coach Matt Schairer called timeout.
-Dean came out of the timeout and ripped two shots on-goal, but both were thwarted. On the third shot, Sauchuk connected in the top left corner of the net, securing the overtime winner and giving Dean the 15-14 victory over Emmanuel.
