Women’s Lacrosse Upended in GNAC Opener by Raiders, 14-3

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Dean College women's lacrosse team was defeated in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opening game by Rivier University on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 14-3. With the loss, the Bulldogs drop to 0-2 (0-1 GNAC) on the year, while the Raiders improve to 1-2 (1-0 GNAC).

How it Happened:
-The Raiders controlled the offensive pace in the first half, scoring eight consecutive goals. Sofia Cabrero scored two goals, putting her one shy of 100 career points. Olivia Wheeler also scored two goals throughout the first half.
-Despite giving up points early in the game, the Bulldogs closed out each quarter with confidence. Senior captains Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, R.I.) and Emma Mock (Tunkhannock, Pa.) each had close shots, but they missed wide of the goal.
-Caroline Ramsey (Shreveport, La.) also had a closely contested shot in the second quarter. However, Rivier's Arriana Imbriano made her first save of the game, keeping Dean off the board. The Raiders finished the first half with an 8-0 lead over the Bulldogs.
-The Bulldogs found their stride in the third quarter. Mock broke Rivier's scoring streak with her second of the season. Her unassisted effort made it 10-1.
-Shortly after, first-year Bella McQuade (North Attleboro, Mass.) converted on a free position shot. Her first collegiate goal gave Dean a 2-0 scoring run heading into the final quarter.
-Ramsey continued Dean's offensive surge in the fourth. She found the back of the net on an unassisted tally, giving the Bulldogs their third goal of the game.
-However, the Raiders shut the door on Dean in the final minutes. The visitors scored thrice, including Cabrero's 100th career point, to give them the final 14-3 win.
