NASHUA, N.H. – Junior
Manny Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) netted four goals during the Dean College men's lacrosse team's 16-9 loss to Rivier University on Saturday afternoon. With the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss, the Bulldogs drop to 2-3 (0-2 GNAC), while the Raiders improve to 3-0 (1-0 GNAC).
How it Happened:
-The Raiders struck first just ten seconds into the contest. Andrew Nee found the back of the net on an assist from Colin Foley. The defending GNAC champions had an early 1-0 advantage.
-However, the Bulldogs didn't take long to respond.
Kevin Gardner (North Branford, Conn.) continued his scoring ways from a slick pass by Alvarez-Segee. Less than ten minutes in, the game was tied 1-1.
-Gardner's tally kicked off a 3-0 Bulldog run.
Jimmy Erickson (Derry, N.H.) gave Dean the advantage, followed by a goal from
Kyle Pianka (Greenville, R.I.). Dean now had the 3-1 jump over the Raiders at the end of the first quarter.
-Both teams scored a combined nine goals throughout the entire second quarter. However, six of those goals were scored by the Raiders, putting them back in front. James DelPrete scored three goals to help Rivier snag a 7-6 lead going into halftime.
-Alvarez-Segee scored his first two goals of the game in this quarter.
Connor McCarthy (Whitman, Mass.) also picked up an assist on his second goal.
-DelPrete's third goal also started a 6-0 scoring run that stretched into the third quarter. Dean broke the chain on a man-up goal, setup by DelPrete on an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty. Gardner scored his second of the game, unassisted, to make it 11-7.
-Dean allowed two more quick goals at the end of the quarter to give Rivier a 13-7 advantage.
-With their backs against the wall, the Bulldogs clawed their way back into the scoring column. Alvarez-Segee finished his performance with two more goals, both of which were unassisted. Dean also drew several penalties on the Raiders to put themselves in man-up positions.
-However, despite their best efforts, the Raiders continued to find the back of the net. They scored three more times in the final quarter to take the win by a final score of 16-9.
