Women's Lacrosse Defeated in Season Opener by Colonels, 18-3

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Dean College women's lacrosse team was defeated in their season opener by Curry College on Thursday afternoon by a final score of 18-3. With the loss, the Bulldogs begin the season 0-1, while the Colonels grab their first win of the year (1-1).

How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs were the first team to strike with a goal just over three minutes in. Ali Murphy (Middleboro, Mass.) scored her first career goal off an assist from senior Alisha Caldeira (West Bridgewater, Mass.).
-Curry, however, quickly responded to Dean's tally. They finished the first quarter by going on a 5-0 run, including goals from Grace Grosso and Samanatha Sprissler. At the end of the first, the Colonels established an early 5-1 lead.
-Dean grabbed two goals back in the second quarter. Caroline Ramsey (Shreveport, La.) scored her first of the season on an assisted effort. Just about two minutes later, senior Emma Mock (Tunkhannock, Pa.) grabbed Dean's third goal. Both their goals combined made up Dean's highest-scoring quarter of the game.
-In the second, Curry grabbed a quintuplet of goals, giving them a 10-3 lead at halftime.
-The Colonels continued their offensive prowess in the second half, outscoring Dean 8-0. This included two more goals each from both Grosso and Sprissler.
-However, Dean did not take their foot off the gas pedal. Murphy and Allie Stockwell (Burrillville) continued to pepper the goal but came up shy of points. Caldeira and Ramsey also had shots throughout the second half.
-Curry College had one last goal in the final quarter on a free position attempt. Ava Doyle netted the effort, allowing Curry to wind time off the clock. This set up Curry to finish victorious by a final score of 18-3.
