RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Dean College men's lacrosse team rolled past the University of Mount Saint Vincent (UMSV) on Wednesday night, taking them down by a final score of 16-6. With the non-conference victory, the Bulldogs improve to 4-5 (1-4 GNAC), while the Dolphins drop to 3-7 overall.
How it Happened:
-Dean came out firing in the opening quarter.
Manny Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) and
Collin Murphy (Whitman, Mass.) each found the back of the net early to give the Bulldogs a quick 3–0 advantage.
-The Bulldogs controlled possession from the start, with
Josh Hackett (Orange. Conn.) dominating faceoffs and consistently giving Dean extra opportunities.
-
Connor McCarthy (Whitman, Mass.) added a late first-quarter goal to extend the lead to 4–1, capping a strong opening frame.
-Dean continued to build momentum in the second quarter.
Kevin Gardner (North Branford, Conn) and
Nick Fernandez (Weymouth, Mass.) each scored, including a man-up goal from Fernandez to push the lead to 6–2.
-The Bulldogs' offense found a rhythm late in the half, with
Marc Sauchuk (Uncasville, Conn.) and
Colby Mahoney (Southbury, Conn.) scoring back-to-back goals to stretch the advantage to 9–2 at halftime.
-Coming out of the break, Dean maintained control, as Sauchuk struck again early in the third quarter to reach double digits.
-The Bulldogs continued to capitalize on extra-man opportunities, with
Joseph Marra finishing a man-up goal off a setup from Sauchuk to extend the lead. This was the third man-up goal of the game for Dean.
-Alvarez-Segee added another goal during the quarter, while Fernandez connected late in the period to keep the offense rolling.
-Defensively, Dean tightened up in the second half, limiting Mount Saint Vincent to four goals after halftime while forcing three additional penalties.
-In the fourth quarter, C. McCarthy added another goal off an assist from Fernandez, and
Aaron McDonald (Weymouth, Mass.) capped the scoring as Dean pulled away. They finished the game victorious with a final score of 16-6.
