Baseball Shoveled in Sunday Matinee with Colby-Sawyer Chargers

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Dean College baseball team was defeated in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play by Colby-Sawyer College on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 21-2. With the loss, Dean drops to 10-3 (2-1 GNAC), while the Chargers grab their first conference win of the year (5-9, 1-0 GNAC)

The Basics
WINNING PICHER: Micah McMannus
LOSING PITCHER: Tyler Giambra (Prospect, Conn.)
TOTAL TIME: 1:24
*Due to rain, game two of the doubleheader has been postponed. The makeup date is still TBA.

How it Happened:
-Giambra retired the Chargers in order to begin the contest. Giambra also recorded his first strikeout of the game, sitting Jesse Chaves down on three pitches.
-In the bottom half, Colin Favata (Syosset, N.Y.) recorded the game's first hit. He eventually reached third on a wild pitch and batted effort from Jacob Paschetto (East Longmeadow, Mass.). However, it was left stranded after a strikeout from Matthew Dutton (Dublin, Ireland).
-Colby-Sawyer broke open the score in the second inning, scoring four runs in the top half. Their effort was highlighted by a three-run home run from Mike McLeer. Noah Staffier also had a sacrifice flyout, giving them their fourth score of the frame.
-The Chargers scored two more times in the third and added a quintuplet of runs in the fourth. This prompted Dean to go to the bullpen to slow down the damage. By the end of the fourth inning, it was 11-0.
-Dean finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning. Nick Amendolara (Bayville, N.Y.) blasted a solo home run, keeping Dean within striking distance.
-However, Colby-Sawyer kept their foot on the gas. They scored ten more runs through the next three innings of play. They also finished the game with 13 total hits.
-Dean added one more run in the bottom of the seventh. Spencer Lichstrahl (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) added to the home run fiesta, generating a solo shot to right field.
-Despite the final burst of life, the Bulldogs ultimately fell to the Chargers by the final score of 21-2.

Standouts:
-Amendolara (2-2, Solo Home Run, RBI)
-Kyler Lorenz (East Providence, R.I.) (2-3 Batting)
-Lichstrahl (1-1, Solo Home Run, RBI)
