Favata, Fahey Launch Home Runs in Baseball’s 11-9 Victory with Mass Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Seniors Luke Fahey (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Colin Favata (Syosset, N.Y.) each recorded home runs in baseball's thrilling 11-9 victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 8-2 while the Buccaneers drop to 5-3.

The Basics
WINNING PICHER: Spencer Lichstrahl (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
LOSING PITCHER: Mike Campbell
TOTAL TIME: 2:43

How it Happened:
-Mass Maritime took the early lead at the top of the 1st inning. Colsen Loughren recorded an RBI double, scoring two runs off starter Stephen Wyszynski (Springfield, Mass.).
-However, it didn't take the Bulldogs long to respond. In the bottom of the second, both Fahey and Favata launched home runs off Mass Maritime starter Jack O'Rourke. Favata's swing tied the game with two RBIs, and Fahey's effort gave Dean the 3-2 lead.
-The Bucs tied the game in the fourth frame. Eddie Correia created a pickle down the second base line, allowing Kevin Heine to score the tying run.
-Dean scored once again in the bottom half of the inning. Sophomore Kyler Lorenz (East Providence, R.I.) scored on a wild pitch, giving the Bulldogs a 4-3 advantage.
-The fifth inning was one of the highest-scoring frames of the game. Both teams scored a combined six runs, with Dean still holding the lead 8-5.
-The Bucs kicked off the scoring that inning. Jack Duffy joined the home run fiesta with a two-run shot of his own. This gave Mass Maritime the lead again, 5-4, going into the bottom half.
-Dean rose to the occasion, scoring four runs to get back on top. Gavin Goss (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice, but two runs came across on a throwing error. Dean scored more runs on the same sequence afterward. Both Matthew Dutton (Dublin, Ireland) and Goss both scored to give Dean the 8-5 advantage.
-Over the next two innings, the Buccaneers clawed their way back into the game. By the top of the seventh, the game was once again tied at eight.
-The Bulldogs never backed down. They scored three more times in the bottom half, all of which on wild throws. It was now 11-8 Dean with two innings to play.
-Jack Duffy smacked his second homer of the game in the eighth inning, cutting the lead to two. However, Domenic Brazeau (Warwick, R.I.) slammed the door on the mound to seal the Bulldog victory, 11-9.
