FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Dean College men's lacrosse team fell in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play to Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 11-8. With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 2-5 (0-4 GNAC), while the Monks improved to 4-3 (3-0 GNAC).
How it Happened:
-Dean came out firing in the opening quarter, establishing control early with an aggressive offensive attack that resulted in multiple quality scoring chances.
-The Bulldogs capitalized on their early possessions, putting together a strong five-goal first quarter to take a commanding 5–1 lead after the opening 15 minutes. Despite the first goal being scored by the Monks,
Manny Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) scored three goals to help the Bulldogs take the early lead.
-Dean continued to apply pressure in the early portion of the second quarter, adding another goal to extend the advantage and maintain momentum.
Connor McCarthy (Whitman, Mass.) scored Dean's first of the quarter, followed by the fourth goal of the day for Alvarez-Segee.
-Saint Joseph's began to respond midway through the quarter, stringing together several scoring opportunities and finding the back of the net to start cutting into the deficit.
-The Monks generated a four-goal second quarter, while Dean added two of its own, bringing the score to 7–5 in favor of the Bulldogs at halftime.
-Both teams battled for possession throughout the third quarter, with defensive play tightening on both ends of the field.
-Saint Joseph's edged Dean 2–1 in the period, trimming the Bulldogs' lead to 8–7 heading into the final quarter. Maxwell Plunske and Noah Schaeffer netted the goals to bring the Monks within one.
-The Monks tied the contest early in the fourth quarter, shifting the momentum after a strong defensive stand and transition opportunity. Cavicchi scored the tying goal just 1:22 into the frame.
-Saint Joseph's continued its surge with another goal moments later, taking its first lead of the game since the opening minutes. They also took advantage of Dean's clearing miscues, eventually earning several cause turnovers.
-Dean attempted to regroup offensively with several shot attempts, but the Monks' defense and goalkeeper Reed Wescott turned away the opportunities. He finished the afternoon with 14 total saves.
