Amendolara’s Go-Ahead Home Run Powers Baseball Past Westminster in Extra Innings, 4-3

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Senior Nick Amendolara (Bayville, N.Y.) launched the go-ahead home run in extra innings to give the Dean College baseball team the 4-3 victory over Westminster College (Pa.) on Friday morning. With the win, the Bulldogs close out their spring break trip with a 7-2 overall record, while the Titans drop to 7-4.

The Basics
WINNING PICHER: Domenic Brazeau (Warwick, R.I.)
LOSING PITCHER: Jack Strausser
TOTAL TIME: 2:17

How it Happened:
-Westminster struck first in the bottom of the first inning, taking advantage of early opportunities at the plate to score three runs on a pair of RBI singles and a run-scoring groundout, quickly putting Dean in a 3–0 hole.
-Dean starter Owen Critchley (Dayton, Maine) regrouped after the opening inning and kept the Titans off the scoreboard over the next few frames, helping the Bulldogs settle into the game and giving the offense time to respond.
-The Bulldogs finally broke through in the top of the fifth inning. With runners on base, Kyler Lorenz (East Providence, R.I.) delivered a clutch two-run single, driving in Amendolara and Dylan Altermatt (North Branford, Conn.) to cut the deficit to 3–2.
-Dean continued to apply pressure offensively in the middle innings, putting runners on base and forcing Westminster's pitching staff to work through several key situations.
-The Bulldogs eventually pulled even in the eighth inning. After Dean worked a runner into scoring position, Luke Fahey (Glastonbury, Conn). came through with a timely RBI single, bringing home Colin Favata (Syosset, N.Y.) to tie the game at 3–3.
-With the game deadlocked, Dean's bullpen took control. Brazeau was dominant in relief, working multiple scoreless innings and shutting down the Westminster lineup to send the game into extra innings.
-In the top of the 10th inning, Dean finally broke through for the go-ahead run. Amendolara launched a solo home run, giving the Bulldogs their first lead of the afternoon at 4–3.
-Brazeau returned to the mound in the bottom half of the inning and closed the door, retiring the Titans to complete the comeback victory and secure the extra-inning win for Dean.
