FRANKLIN, Mass. – Junior guard
Naser Motley (Everett, Wash.) netted 25 points in the Dean College men's basketball team's 93-78 loss to Saint Joseph's College of Maine. The Saturday loss dropped Dean to 15-6 (5-3 GNAC), while the Monks improved to 13-8 (8-0 GNAC).
How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs matched pace with Saint Joseph's through the first ten minutes of the game. The scoring opened with Remijo Wani and Wani Donato netting five consecutive points. However, they were quickly answered with matching scores by Motley and
Izayah Porter (Jonesboro, Ga.).
-With twelve minutes to go in the first half, the Bulldogs took their first lead of the afternoon.
Darius Leonard (Washington, D.C.) drilled a three-point shot from the middle of the arc. Dean now led the Monks 18-17.
Christian Yeates (Atlanta, Ga.) furthered the lead with a free throw conversion.
-However, the Monks quickly found their stride and responded to the call. Wani led the Saint Joseph's offense to 30 more points, finishing with a first half lead of 47-40. They also saw a lead as high as 11 points.
-Porter would help the Bulldogs go into the locker room with confidence. He scored the final three points of the half, including an impressive shot from mid-range.
-The Monks opened the second half with the momentum. John Paul Frazier showcased his shooting prowess by knocking down the team's first nine points. He finished the game shooting over 50 percent from the field and 5-11 on three-point shots.
-Despite the opposition's strong start, Dean continued to display resilience in the second half. On multiple occasions, they would knock on the doorstep by bringing the lead within seven points. Yeates helped lead the charge with nine second-half points.
-However, Dean found themselves stuck at this threshold. The Monks continued to hold a firm lead throughout the final moments despite losing Silvano Ismail on fouls.
-Dean tried the full-court press in the final minute, but their efforts came up short. Saint Joseph's scored two late baskets and took the win by a final score of 93-78.
