Ellis & Lacy Post Double-Doubles in Dominant Victory Over Mitchell, 97-69

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Dean College women's basketball team took down Mitchell College in dominant fashion on Tuesday evening, winning by a final score of 97-69. With the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory, Dean improves to 7-13 (2-5 GNAC), while the Mariners dropped to 2-15 (0-8 GNAC).

Notables:
-Junior Jordan Ellis (Bridgeport, Conn.) posted her fifth double-double of the season, scoring 18 points with a season-high 14 rebounds. This was also her second consecutive game with a double-double.
-Senior Abigail Lacy (Arroyo Grande. Calif.) also recorded a double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds. This was her third double-double of the season.

How it Happened:
-Both sides traded blows to open the first quarter scoring. Ellis had the game's first basket on a successful three-point shot. First-year Kenzie Sherburne (Durham, N.Y.) furthered the lead by drawing a foul and converting at the free-throw line.
-Mitchell swiftly responded by converting from both the field and beyond the arc. Jordan Streitmatter and Jamya Beddoe got Mitchell into the box score by recording the team's first two baskets.
-Before both sides knew it, the game was already tied at 11 just five minutes into the game.
-However, the Bulldogs saw an opportunity to run away. Lacy scored to tie the game at 11, eventually prompting a 15-5 run by Dean's offense. All five starters contributed during the stretch, giving Dean the 25-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.
-Dean's first-quarter success carried into the second. They outscored the Mariners 22-11 and led at halftime by a commanding score of 47-27. Gianna Smith (Douglas, Mass.) also scored her first collegiate points on a three-point shot.
-Mitchell had a small resurgence coming out of the intermission. Thery scored 11 of the first 17 points in the latter half. This included back-to-back, three-point shots from Streitmatter and Jade Hypolite.
-Mitchell also outscored Dean 21-16 in the third. This would be the only quarter in which the Mariners scored more points than the Bulldogs.
-With a 63-48 lead heading into the final frame, the Bulldogs put the petal to the metal. Lacy scored the first four points at the free-throw line, followed by another three-pointer from Smith.
-In fact, over 80 percent of Dean's roster converted from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs shot 57 percent on their three-point attempts in the final frame.
-After an offensive barrage, the Bulldogs emerged victorious by a final score of 97-69.
